I was in vacation in Jamaica and this waterfall is a major touristic attraction, so of course I went there with my camera as well.Time
It was around 11.00 o'clock A.M. I was there with my 1 year old boy, so I could not be there very early in the morning, when the light is normally perfect for nature photography.Lighting
The forest is covering pretty good all the area, but a mini tripod is fur sure need it, if you want to take long exposure. I do as well shot handheld, for a different type of photos, without any problems, using low ISO.Equipment
I used my Nikon D7000 with my preferred "traveling" lens: the 24-120mm f4 with a Nikon polarizer filter. I used a Manfrotto 190 tripod with an Acratech head ball for light, but stable equipment.Inspiration
This waterfall is really incredible and I could have spent the entire day shooting from different angles and positions. I really liked the different areas....from a strong darkness to an amazing highlight. Kind of a challenge to achieve a great photo, I told my self.Editing
I always try to minimize the post production, especially with landscape & macro photography. I normally try to enhance the colors and increase the contrast. I don't like extreme manipulations with PS or any other programs...I'd prefer go with HDR photography in that case.In my camera bag
This is always the hardest question to answer....Being lucky to own a lot of camera bodies and lenses, I really don't have a basic "kit", is always depending by every situation or photography trip. Let's say that my fantastic four are: Nikon D3 S, Nikon D810, Nikon 24-70mm f2,8 & Nikon 70-200mm f2,8. I always take with me filters, cable release and a tripod with an head ball.Feedback
I'm telling people to always carry a tripod, even a cheap one. I know is not convenient to travel with it, but maybe once in your trip you will regret not to have it with you. Experimenting is my other basic suggest I gave to people asking me advices...photography is art, so after learning the basics, you need to find out yourself in what you are good at. Now days you can check your work straight away and in case you can try to recompose the same photo, if you are not happy with it.
