Location
The view is facing west at dawn in the Utah desert near Monument Valley. I was prone in the middle of the highway to get the shot.. I love the castle looking rocks set against the darker clouds behind the rocks. It has a whisical Yellow Brick Roadish feel about it.Time
The sun is just breaking above the horizon in the early summer morning. I had slept in my SUV thr night before so that I captured the morning light.Lighting
The early dawn lighting gives great depth to all the surrounding rock formations. The low angle also provides great contrast and texture in the roadway surface.Equipment
I was using a Canon EOS 7D with apperture set at f/8 and exposure time 1/2000. All the lighting was provided by Mother Nature!Inspiration
The splendor of the sun illuminating the beauty of desert and the surrounding red rock formations. I had to come away with at least one good image after spending the night in the desert awaiting sunrise.Editing
The contrast, color and sharpness were each enhanced in the raw image. In my camera bag
Canon EOS 7D camera; Tamron 18 - 270 mm (great all-purpose lens) and Canon Macro EF 100 mm lenses. I often hike with a light weight tripod and carry extra batteries, a polarizng filter and a neutral density filter.Feedback
The outdoor lighting for this type landscape photography is best at dawn and dusk when the Sun's low angle creates dark shadows and bright highlights giving great depth and contrast to your image.
