He is a juvenile eagle owl. They grow rather large. At the point I saw him he was possibly half adult size....even so ...a bit fearsome. I just rattled of a few shots and off he went. But he was lovely thank you Lorenzo..

ADDED TO WAYNES PROJECT...TIPS AND POINTERS...
THE SECRET OF THIS SHOT WAS TO GET IN CLOSE...THEN CLOSER STILL. YOU DO RISK THE BIRD FLYING OFF, BUT IF YOU MOVE SLOWLY AND GRADUALLY AND TRY TO LOOK HIM IN THE EYE, HE IS CURIOUS RATHER THAN IN FEAR. OF COURSE, KEEP SAFETY IN MIND. I DID USE THE PORTRAIT FUNCTION ON THE CANON 1100 AND KEPT THE FLASH LOCKED TO AVOID MAKING A NOISE AND SPOOKING HIM .

Crazy...crazy......of course I am. Would I go this close if I wasn't crazy!!!! Ha ha...It was only afterwards I thought..."What were you doing, you silly woman?" In photography its throw caution to the wind and if the Owl or the Scottish comedian get you then so be it.

I love owls. I flew with the 497th TFS, Nite Owls, at Ubon Royal Thai Air Base in '72-'73 and I have a soft spot for owls.

The eyes are amazing. My little sister will love this one Kathleen so I shall share to facebook with her. She has ALS and is not able to get out of the bed very much at all anymore. I think the Owls are her 1st or 2nd favorite animal out there to the Polar Bears. Thanks for sharing ...
