This looks like a multiple exposure. Was this a one single shot? Good job anyway. Its scary to be there! :-)

This picture is amazing. You mention that you were lucky to be in the right place at the right time. My friend, a photographer and meteorologist tells me that the odds of clearly catching 19 ground strikes simultaneously at you camera settings are about the same as the odds of getting struck by lightning. If you hanven't done so yet, best buy a lottery ticket ASAP :-)

hi there. thank you so much. This image is an amalgamation of 7 images. the strikes were occuring 2-3/10 secs at the time. i think after i processing it , view bug camera settings maybe scewed. some of the exposures were as long as 45 secs collecting as many as 4-5 strikes in onee exposure.

Location
This photo was taken on an average day of shooting , in inner city Brisbane Australia. I'm self taught , so every chance i get i think of a nice place to set the scene for my next day of shooting. Originally i went to this spot for some sunset pictures over the story bridge (the far end of which you can see in the image) . As the afternoon got darker, a storm front entered unexpectedly from the south west. The sun went down but the light show had only just begun, as strike after strike came down on the city.Time
Out of all the images I've taken , this would definitely rank among my favorite. Like so many of my shoots , i have something in mind the previous day , yet when i get to the destination i end up doing something completely different. This may sound like poor planning to some , but i believe spontaneity helps keep you fresh with ideas. I'm a big lover of cloud formations , and usually shoot multiple times in one spot to get the right clouds. This can help make my job a little easier post processing. I started taking photos at 5:30 pm for the sunset, yet as i stayed longer the Air became cooler and the clouds started to culminate into a much darker cloud mass. Lightning flashes started to appear shortly after , and by 6:15 pm the storm was baring down on Brisbane.Lighting
Originally i had in mind that mother nature would take care of the lighting since originally i was here for the sun. It turned out i was right , just mother nature had other ideas with the light source and decided to strike the city with hundreds of lightning bolts instead. The contrast of city lights and blue lightning makes this one of my favorite images.Equipment
This shot , was shot with a Nikon D810 , using the nikon 14-24mm f2.8. my favorite combination for landscape photography. I also used a manfrotto mt055 tripod.Inspiration
I grew up on the east coast of Australia. During storm season, it is not uncommon to get several storm fronts in one 24 hr period. As a child i was fascinated by lightning, storms and the awesome power of nature. When i first started photography a few years ago capturing lighting was one of my first goals, though unfortunately luck wasn't on my side. Most of the fronts went in opposite directions or when i did arrive at the right place there was no cover to protect the lens from water droplets. Now when selecting locations before the storm season, i always scout the area and note places i can use for cover or wide open areas to catch the lighting before the rain hits. This image was using the latter, thankfully i was beside one of the cities iconic land marks.Editing
Post processing. for my self at least has become somewhat of a necessity to get the best out of my landscape photography. This image is a photo merge using Adobe photoshop. I processed the first image using Adobe Lightroom , then copied the same process for each image. I brought the shadows back just a touch for the foreground, and corrected the white balance as auto balance was used in the original raw files. color was enhances just a little to help the lightning really pop.In my camera bag
These days I'm somewhat sporadic when it comes to my photography. i mostly shoot landscapes but wildlife has started to grow on me. Its this reason that i now take my nikon 14-24mm f2.8 as well as the new nikon 200-500mm f5.6 . Ideally ill get a second camera body, so i don't have to quickly change lenses and crop my camera mode to get faster shutter speeds. I usually always travel with my tripod , as I'm usually doing long exposures at sunrise before taking wildlife images. Lens cleaning gear is always on me.Feedback
Storm chasing can be both exciting and challenging to shoot. Get to know a big area around where your expecting to shoot storms, including shelter to shoot from, various landmarks and features which really make lightning photos shine. Know your camera, or better still just have the right f stop and setting already in your camera before you arrive. Lightning and storms in general are notoriously unpredictable, don't get disheartened if you miss a few.Have plenty of dry lens cloths on standby , your bound to get water droplets on the lens.
