Last May 28th 2014 a hiker slipped on a wet slab of rock at the base of the Upper Yosemite Falls stream, being flushed about 30 meters (100 feet) down the rapids, but still able to hang to a large boulder and resting on top of it waiting for rescue.
I was hiking the Yosemite Falls trail when the heli search and rescue team approached the falls. While I shot the scene (fallen hiker wasn't visible from my viewpoint) the heli pulled back and hiking ground rescue teams hurried past me to the location. Luckily, he ended up being rescued, alive.
And I got a heli in front of a huge waterfall!!

the size of the tiny and endangered chopper makes us aware so much the huge size of the falls. One very lucky hiker...

Being in the right place at the right time really counts... every photographer needs a moment like this. Nice capture. Glad you were ready for it.

Location
Yosemite Falls hiking trail, Yosemite National Park, California, United StatesTime
Shot in the middle of the day, near noon.Lighting
The close shot of the waterfall - at 200mm - helped me to control the very bright daylight conditions, which cast strong and hard shadows on the surrounding environment.Equipment
Hand-held Canon EOS 60D with a Canon EF 70-200 f/4L IS USM, hood on.Inspiration
This is was one of those moments where I was just taking advantage of a very uncommon situation unfolding just before my eyes. The moment I saw the helicopter come near the falls - and I wasn't aware why at the time - I knew exactly what I was hoping to get. And boy, did I get it! The entire series turned out awesome, better than I could ever imagine. I spent almost three weeks in traveling in the US, through Utah, Arizona, California and Hawaii, saw stunning sceneries everywhere; though I was able to get a relatively nice set of photographs throughout, this series of shots easily stands out, with lots of drama, suspense and beauty all in the same image. It's a curious thing, but for me it nicely encompasses the spirit of the country and I was glad I could bring it home as a memory.Editing
As with most of my photos, I processed the shot using Adobe Lightroom for overall light and tonal settings, as well as sharpness. In my camera bag
It depends on how much hiking I have to do but it usually adds up to 10-12 kg plus the tripod. At the very least I'll take two camera bodies (at the time a Canon 5D Mark II and a Canon 60D) and two lenses (Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM and EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM), ND filters, flashlight, timer remote, cleaning materials, extra cards and batteries... I will also try to take a 24-70 f/2.8L USM lens with me, but unfortunately I don't use it as often as I should.Feedback
As I mentioned earlier, I think this is a one of a kind photo. In any case, it could serve as purpose to demonstrate how a large waterfall, even if it looks slim from afar, like the Yosemite Falls, can serve as powerful backdrop for foreground subject. My 70-200mm lens is my second lens for landscape photography - though I love using the wide angle, closing in or compressing natural features that are far off make stunning images.
