This photo was taken during a Waving to Strangers concert at Sala Razzmatazz, in Barcelona. I am friends with the band and they invited me to the concert, and in return I brought my camera to take some shots.Time
Well, not that it really matters, since it was indoors at a music venue, but it was at night, maybe around 8:30pm.Lighting
Being a concert, I had to deal with the usual stage lights... strong, direct, colorful, ever changing, mostly unpredictable.. specially since I haven't had much experience shooting concerts.. but in the end I was comfortable and the light worked in my favor.Equipment
A Canon 5D classic with a Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 lens.Inspiration
Rock and roll, baby! I had been to a few other Waving to Strangers concerts, I knew them, I knew the songs, I knew the strong parts of their performance.. I was there to have a good time, and I did! The shooting part came as natural as it could...Editing
Yes, I used Lightroom to accentuate the flare, add some contrast and get rid of some of the noise, since it was taken with ISO 1600 and the old 5D wasn't the best at handling such high numbers. In my camera bag
At the time I had a Canon 5D classic. Now I have a Canon 60D and I'm about to get myself a Canon 6D, since I need to go back to full frame! My lenses are a Canon 50mm f/1.8, a Sigma fisheye 14mm f/2.8, a Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 and a Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8.Feedback
Shoot manual! The light varying the way it does during a concert drives the camera crazy, and you don't want to leave it to chance. Also, if you're allowed, move a lot.. walk in front of the stage, get on the stage, behind the musicians, show the crowd... pay attention to the performance.. the musicians are putting on a show, capture their emotions, what the songs say.. and above all: enjoy the music, have fun, sing, dance.. but don't forget to shoot!
