Behind The Lens

Location

I had just purchased a new lens for my Nikon and was really keen to try it out so took it with me when I went walking with my dog at Ripon canal. I've still so much to learn but really enjoy practicing as much as possible.

Time

This was taken at 17.24 when everything was bathed in beautiful sunlight.

Lighting

I used the natural lighting of the sun which at the time of taking the photo was quite low in the sky giving a warming glow.

Equipment

I used my Nikon D7100, a Sigma 105mm 1:2.8 DG Macro HSM lens, no tripod but I sat on the ground to steady myself.

Inspiration

I think dandelions are amazing, they can all be so different and loved the way some of the seeds had already dispersed leaving a clear view of the centre.

Editing

I reduced the highlights to give a clearer image and used a small amount of high pass to increase the sharpness.

In my camera bag

I carry with me my Nikon D7100, Nikon 50mm 1:1.8 D lens, Nikon 18 - 105mm 1:3.5-5.6 G lens, Tamron 18-250 1:3.5-6.3 and Sigma 105mm 1:2.8 DG Macro HSM lens.

Feedback

The time of day taking a photo can alter an image completely. There was no breeze to cause movement of the subject I was taking as even the smallest breeze could have made a difference to the sharpness. I looked at various dandelions, all having slight differences and chose the one I thought would make the most interesting image. Be aware of any distractions behind the subject you are taking.
