Location
The photo was taken in Monument Valley while on a private tour using a Navajo guide. I would highly recommend this tour as you get to see many areas otherwise unavailable.Time
This photo was taken around 10am on 6/3/2015. The morning light along with the light cloud cover provided the natural lighting needed.Lighting
I wanted the contrast between the sky the sand and shadows in the foreground to show the beauty of the subject.Equipment
This shot was with a Canon T3i Camera using a 18-55mm Lens and a polarizing filter, no other equipment was used.Inspiration
I was looking for an interesting angle to photography this area called "Ear of the Wind" and thought the view behind this dead tree provided the desired affect. It helped give the shot the depth and contrast I was looking for.Editing
No post processing was used on this shot.In my camera bag
I always pack my Canon T3i and a 18-55mm lens, a 55-250mm lens and a 100-400mm lens along with a 2x converter. I also keep several ND filters I use for long exposure shots.Feedback
Monument Valley provides many various landscape shot opportunities. Early morning (Sunrise), late day (Sunset), and full light of midday all offer distinct changes in color of the landscape. I recommend experimenting at all of these times and at different angles until you find the perfect lighting that fits your style and desired effect. I could spend weeks shooting this area and still could find a different angle, light, etc. to make it seem like a new shoot each time.
