The gharial is a crocodilian with a long narrow jaw armed with 110 teeth designed for catching fish. The males can grow up to 6 meters or about 19 feet in length while the females are somewhat smaller. The males are also distinguishable by the sizable growth on the end of their snout. Once found in all of the major river systems in the northern half of the Indian subcontinent, the species is now critically endangered. I photographed this one at the Honolulu zoo.
