During a Spring trip to Washington DC, I walked by the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, where a French family had their kids lining up by the George Segal’s Breadline sculpture. The 5 male figures in the sculpture (representing the despair of the Great Depression), all with eyes downcast and all dressed in long coats and hats to shield from the cold, stand in line against a brick wall and wait for food that may be only bread... A contrast of drab past-history and the color of youth-future.
