Lilo chilling out in the chair.
My Amazing Portrait - ranked Number 1 and placed ahead of 28,920 submissions. But hey, Viewbug chooses their own "people's choice" regardless!
World photo day 2020 ranked number 6 and placed ahead of 49,305 submissions yet our votes don't matter it seems, they choose their own people's choice.
Why do I mention this? Because I am protesting what I feel are Viewbug's misrepresentation of "people's choice".

Has the same look on her face as my BMC gets when watching a squirrel. Cute capture!

Location
This was at one of my best friend's house in her living room. She has two rescue dogs, both sisters from the island of St Lucia. She has several large windows facing west and we were in her living room. I had my camera nearby and I decided to catch her eyeballing domestic critters, in this case a squirrel. Her property backs onto a forested area, which Lilo and her sister seem to be always wanting a piece of the action when wildlife rears!Time
This was a mid afternoon, two summer's ago, just before dinner. Lilo and her sister Brooklyn usually fight over who got the top spot to look outside at squirrel's trying to hit up the bird feeders in my friend's back yard.Lighting
This was totally ambient lighting.Equipment
This was with my Canon 5D mkIV and EF 70-200 IS II L, no flash and totally handheld.Inspiration
I was sitting at one of my best friend's house and was chatting when I noticed Lilo, who was always on the hunt for backyard squirrels, had perked up and noticed one. I happened to have my camera near and managed to snap off this beauty of a pose. She wanted the squirrel so badly haha. I am increasingly less inspired to submit photos to contests. Having had this photo ranked 1st overall (not percent, actually 1st by people's votes) out of ten's of thousands of photos, yet don't even get a runner up or anything is truly disheartening.Editing
I did surprisingly little on this as far as post processing, other than a little blurring, crop and adding a little vignette in PaintShop Photo Pro 2019. I usually use DXO for my RAW processing or on occasion Canon's own if I shoot with Dual Pixel Raw. I am still learning portraiture and would love tips and tricks or ideas. I am learning to do more in camera and shoot on manual. There are so many inspiring shots here, I can't imagine not being a member! In my camera bag
I have my Canon BG-E20 grip on my 5D mark IV, along with a EF 24-70 f2.8 II L, a EF 70-200 f2.8 IS II L, I have a EF 50 f1.8 III, an EF 85 f1.8 as well as an EF 300 f4 II L. I have a Canon 600 EX RT II speed light and a Metz 52 flash. I have a whole whack of Yongnuo 622 flash controller thingys too. I now keep a box of tissues to wipe away tears of frustration. I recommend sealing them in a ziplock bag or other waterproof container, as you will need them now and then when contest winners are chosen despite your rank as voted by your peers.Feedback
Ummm, no not really anymore, as voting is just a facade and a means to make you feel involved. So really, do what you wish and prepare for surprise or dismay, and/or both. You just never know with the judges! If I must - Best to always have a camera nearby pets it seems, as you never know what kind of shot you'll miss with a pet. Right place and right time I guess with this one! There are many inspiring photographers here and in my city. I have learned from everyone and love being motivated by friends and the people I meet here. When it comes to pets, study their habits and try and keep at their level, you'll gain interesting perspectives and see things how they see. Top down can also work, in the right environments. Envision what you want to capture, here I wanted the viewer to wonder what Lilo was so focused on, what had her attention!
