Location
This was taken in the Kandahar province in Afghanistan aboard a helicopter.Time
It was later in the afternoon, mid August, 2008. It was a bazillion degree's hot out with all my personal protective gear on.Lighting
I was travelling in a Dutch Cougar helicopter mid afternoon flying over Kandahar region in Afghanistan. Full sunshine abound, I wanted to capture the outskirts of this neighbourhood perched below the mountain.Equipment
It was captured with an Olympus X-450, only 3.2 mp! It was one of my first digital cameras and was being held together with tape! It was just before my pre-enthusiasts days and I was just having fun and managed this shot. It's one of my favourites.Inspiration
I had my Olympus point and shoot on me and I simply leaned out the door a bit to take the shot.Editing
I like sepia tones and wanted to capture the scene without any item over-taking the other, so sepia tones did thd trick and was simple yet effective. In my camera bag
This was taken with an older Olympus digital Point and Shoot, however nowadays I carry a Canon 70D, Tamron 18-270 as my walk-around lens. I also carry a Sigma 10-20 F/3.5 DC HSM, a Canon EF 50 1.8 STM, various Tiffen UV/haze filters, Kenko Pro1 ND's, Cameron CPF's. I have a TriggerTrap cable to experiment with for long exposures etc. A Metz 44 AF-1 flash unit rounds out my bag.Feedback
Don't be afraid to experiment, memory cards are huge and plentiful. Use any available means to stabilize your shot and don't be afraid to use a higher ISO in darker places. Modern cameras are great for low noise. It's better to get a grainy shot than no shot at all. Don't be afraid to use post-processing when needed, just try not to over do it.
