Sun was already sinking behind us
The hike back up to the North Rim was quite tiring. 15 miles and 5,660’ elevation gain. Of course, many hikers and trail runners often do the ‘Rim to Rim’ or ‘Rim to Rim to Rim’ hikes or runs. I was definitely not prepared. When we trudged past Cottonwood Campground, the sun was already sinking behind us. And this gorgeous orange sunset glow cast at the top of the canyon walls was a clear indication that it was going to be really late by the time when I reached the North Kaibab Trailhead.
