This photo was taken in our lounge room in our 1 bedroom apartment here in Edinburgh. Its not a huge lounge but goes to show you don't need a lot of room to take a photo.Time
This photo was taken late morning around 11am on a cold Saturday in December 2016 as we had the heater blasting in the background!Lighting
I have always been drawn to soft beautiful lighting and with this in mind I set out to achieve this. I experimented with feathering my light away from the model quite drastically and managed to achieve the look I was happy with.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon 6D with at the time my newest purchase a 2nd hand Canon 100mm Macro 2.8 Lighting consisted of 1 Elinchrom RX4 flash with a large silver beauty dish and diffusion sock For the hair movement we used a reflector to waft wind into the models face!Inspiration
Beauty and portraiture is probably my favourite styles of photography and what I gravitate towards. I enjoy the challenge of bringing out the best in people and their features and relish in the challenge of pushing myself artisticallyEditing
Post production is something that I take very seriously and probably enjoy about the whole process the most. In the famous words of Dani Diamond " I shoot to edit" and for me that rings true. The whole process consists of initially cleaning the skin with cloning and healing and the rest is done with dodge and burn. Colour grading I do last using a mixture of curves, colour balance and selective colour adjustment layers. In my camera bag
I never leave without my Canon 85mm 1.2L which is one of my favourite lenses still! My other trusty lenses I never leave without is my Canon 50 1.2L, 100mm Macro and 70-200 2.8L Another must have is my reflector which comes in handy for more than just reflecting light but wafting wind to create movement in my photos!Feedback
As a keen retoucher as well as a photographer, when we all start we are all only as good as our editing unless you know people to outsource to. I would suggest spending time in learning retouching techniques and mastering them along with your photography. A good picture can be ruined by a bad retouch.
