Creatively composed portrait. Nicely captured and congratulations on a well deserved feature.

The softness of the photo makes it look more like a painting. I see by your comments that my guess was correct: the birds were added. Great choice, by the way. They add a lot.

Location
I shot this photo last year 2014 in Italy in a small town called Todi. I was actually on a shoot with another model and the girl in the photo was her friend who was hanging out with us on our shoot. So the model asked me if I would mind if I would take a quick photo of her friend and this is what came out :)Time
This photo was one of my favourites of the day and happened by chance! It was shot late afternoon as the sun was setting camera left.Lighting
Its pretty amazing what beautiful light the sun can give and how the time of day can change the feel and mood of a picture. I am a self taught photographer but have managed to come away with some images that I am very proud of. The light from sunset gives a lovely warm feel to a picture and I tried to use this to my advantage and luckily the sun happened to be to my left and lit up Melissa beautifully with some lovely contrast on the other side of her face.Equipment
This was shot on my trusty Canon 6D, I was shooting most of the day on my Canon 85L 1.2 but for this shot I wanted a wider shot to incorporate the background and the seat, so I used my Sigma 35mm Art 1.4Inspiration
Some of the best shots are sometimes ones that you never plan and happen by chance or by accident. As I said earlier the day was actually for another model and Melissa was just tagging along for support. The model Gloria had a spare outfit and it fit perfectly. Lucky for her and lucky for me :)Editing
I knew that I wanted the photo be warm to enhance the lovely feel of the light it was creating. I used curves to add some warmth to the picture, Melissa has great skin so there was very little to do on her which was great. The original has no birds, and when I had finished the picture originally I felt there was something missing and I played around with adding birds into the background to give the picture more dynamic. It maybe a little over kill but I quite like that they are there. In my camera bag
My bag consists of my Canon 6D, my trusty Canon 50mm 1.2L, Sigma 35mm 1.4 Art, Canon 85mm 1.2L, Canon 16-35mm f4L (2014) and my Canon 70-200mm f2.8L I have a Cactus V6 flash as well as a Canon 600EX with a range of triggers from Pocket Wizard.Feedback
As many people have said before and will continue to say after me, always be prepared and have some sort of plan for the day. Shooting early sunrise or sunset will give you similar light to this one depending on the day and the weather. Shooting at wider apertures can help with getting enough light at at this time of day but be sure to spot check your focus and check your histogram :)
