Beautiful concept. I would not mind experimenting with this ideal myself. What kind of powder is involved though, Baby talcum powder ?

Location
This photo was taken at St Stephens Church in Edinburgh on their stage downstairs.Time
It was mid afternoon, and the model and I had earlier that day done a shoot at a prior location for her dance portfolio and mentioned she wanted to try this idea out.Lighting
I had never done this type of shot before so I had done some quick research online and I brought two strip boxes for my speed lights. I set both of them equidistant on either side of the model one on each shoulder facing her. It was all an experiment to be honest, and kept moving things around, experimenting with different angles.Equipment
I shoot with a Canon 6D, for the speed lights I used one Cactus RF60 and Canon 600EX. I used my Canon 50mm 1.2L lens for this shot as it had a tight enough crop for what i needed with the distance I had at the venue. For the dust we used baby talcum powder, and we applied it everywhere even through her hair and ended up needing to use the whole bottle!Inspiration
This photo was the models idea but after some research it was inspired by Thomas David and his series of dancers and dust! His photos are incredible and well worth having a look if you have not seen them.Editing
For this photo I used photoshop to clean parts of the background where the light caught the black curtain we were against. Also used the clone stamp tool to clean up areas under the feet and make the background completely black. Also a mixture of curves to help with the blacks and contrast. Dodge and Burn to even out some shadows on the body and also give a kick to the powder to make it stand out and finished off with a little bit of high pass sharpening and a crop.In my camera bag
I never leave the house without my favourite and trusty Canon 85mm 1.2L and my 50mm 1.2L lenses. Also depending on the shoot I like to carry my 70-200 2.8L II just incase I need to shoot further away. Sometimes I do carry my Canon 16-35mm f4L but have been using my Sigma 35mm 1.4 Art lately instead.Feedback
Only advice I have for anyone else attempting this look is to have plenty of powder, plenty of spare batteries if using speed lights and make sure you have a dark background as I found that it works the best for this look and effect.
