I clipped a Raynox MSN-202 to the end of my lens and took 62 photos of this hoverfly's head, each shot was focussed approximately 0.05mm (0.002 inches or 50 microns) apart. These photos were then stacked together using Zerene Stacker. The hoverfly was found on a windowsill. I think he had been there for some time as his eyes had started to break down (the paler areas). The photo shows a view of about 3mm (0.1 inches) across.
