Location
I took this one last year, on august the 12th 2016, during the exhibition of the Italian Acrobatic team "Frecce Tricolori" at the Grado, Italy Air Show.Time
This was taken at 5.30 pm, during the final exhibition of the air show.Lighting
It was a lucky day, a perfect sunny summer afternoon with the sun out of the path of the airplanes. I had to do nothing... only taking shots.Equipment
I took this one with my main camera, Nikon D60, with my old Kenko 300mm mirror lens, no light, no tripod. Truly a lucky shot, given that the mirro lens is a very old one (bought in the '80s) without autofocus and stabilizer. I had to focus continously by hand trying to follow the planes as they were passing by.Inspiration
I've always been attracted by airplanes, since I was a child. I fell in love with the "Frecce Tricolori" during my military service back in 1990, spent right at the Rivolto Airbase, home of the 313rd Group "Frecce Tricolori".Editing
As I said before the light was perfect, so I had no need for fancy post processing: the only thing I did was to process the sky and the airplanes separately, to enhance the details of the clouds and to get a deeper blue in the sky.In my camera bag
Now I use regularly a Nikon D60 with its stock 18-55 lens. As a second lens I always bring with me an old (more than 30 years...) 300 mirror lens, really not a modern one :-) but I can manage to get some good shots with it. Not in my bag (it doesn't fit...) but in my car I carry also a tripod, in the case of night shots. Last but not least, when I don't have with me the main equipment I use my cell phone (now a LG K8, in other moments a Samsung Galaxy).Feedback
If you'd like to take this kind of photos, to capture objects in rapid movement like the ones in this shot, you should use a proper equipment, a modern camera body, capable of high speed shooting, high ISO. You should use, most important, a good lens, with autofocus and stabilizer... well the exact opposite of what I've done :-) And don't forget the tripod in the back of your car...
