Found this maple seed jabbed into the rotten center of a large diameter fence post. It fell there by sheer luck, and I happened to approach from the same angle that this was shot. Camera is the Nikon D300 with a Nikkor 200mm f4.0 ais micro lens. (I may have added an extension tube as well)

Behind The Lens

Location

In my back yard.

Time

7 PM

Lighting

The lighting is what drew me to the subject. This is how I found the maple seed, and I didn't change anything.

Equipment

Nikon D300 with a manual focus Nikkor 200mm f4.0 ais micro lens - I may have had an extension tube as well.

Inspiration

I like looking for details in nature, and I considered this a find.

Editing

Just my normal processing from a raw file through ACR.

In my camera bag

I have too much equipment, and multiple bags. What I usually do is pick a camera body or bodies, and whatever lens I want to work with at that time. Focal length, and/or bokeh can be determining factors.

Feedback

Though I used a macro lens ("micro" in Nikon lens terminology) - an easy way to start in macro photography is to use extension tubes with whatever existing lens you already own.
