It's hard to throw away stuff, even if it's broken and worn out. Old albums will be kept until the photos are so faded that you can barely see who's in them, and the old books..........will we ever read them again?

Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in my temporary home studio. In other words: It was taken on a way too low coffee table covered in backdrop cloth, and with a studio light.

Time

This shot was taken around noon, but since it was a studio setting it can be done at any time of the day.

Lighting

This shot was done during the day. I could experiment with studio flashes and sunlight coming through the window.

Equipment

Nikon D700 Lens: 18.0-105.0 mm f/3.5-5.6 Focal length: 35,0 mm 1/250 sec; f/9; ISO 100

Inspiration

I love books, and as you can see these are pretty worn out. It might be because a doberman I once had was a little thief and chewed on everything. One of these books is actually an old photo album that my grandmother left me.

Editing

I added a texture layer, but erased the part covering the books.

In my camera bag

I try not to bring too much gear as it often takes the focus off the shooting. I don't want to waste time choosing between different lenses, and carrying only one lens helps me develop my skills for that particular lens. I normally carry my Nikon D700 and only one lens, usually my 24.0-70.0 mm f/2.8.

Feedback

The best advice is to take your time. Experiment with different light settings, try both natural light and studio flashes. Take multiple shots and have fun!
