Location
I was sitting in the back of a Citabria Taildragger while my friend flew the airplane in an area south of East Texas Regional Airport. All I was doing was baby sitting as opposed to teaching so I took my D800E along equipped with the Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 Lens.Time
DawnLighting
The sun was just peeking over the horizon giving the sky a lot of rich color and it flared a little bit in the 14-24mm lens making it a bit more interesting.Equipment
NIKON D800E and the 14-24mm f/2.8 Nikon Lens.Inspiration
I almost always have a camera of some kind with me and I take a lot of images that end up in the trash. So I was busy shooting from the back seat of the aircraft as we were turning through east. While I noted at the time this image might be special it wasn't until I got it up on the computer that I found how pleasing it was to the eye. So it was more serendipity than inspiration.Editing
Always, the foreground in the RAW file looks totally black. I had to lighten up the shadows quite a bit to get some detail in the cockpit. I also warmed up the color temperature a little, increased vibrance and detail a little and I also gave the saturation slider a small tweek (+10) in Lightroom. I then opened the image in Photoshop and used Smart Sharpen to finish it off.In my camera bag
It's a long list. On a normal day I carry the following in a back pack: Nikon D800E, Olympus Stylus Tough point and shoot, AL-S Nikkor 28 - 300mm Zoom, Nikon AF 16mm f/2.8 Fisheye, AF-S Nikkor f/1.8 50mm, SIGMA 150-600mm Sport Zoom, a Manfroto Tripod equipped with a Ball Head and an array of filters, memory cards, extra batteries and cleaning equipment.Feedback
There is a saying that we have all heard I think "f/8 and be there". Carry a camera with you. It doesn't have to be a big one. I get a lot of mileage out of the Olympus point and shoot I carry with me and it takes excellent pictures in both JPG and RAW. I like to plan photoshoots but a lot of opportunities come your way and if you haven't got a good camera with you it's lost.
