most of these pictures are not of night-let alone mysterious night. You should be disqualifying images that do not fit the theme..

Behind The Lens

Location

At Crescent Beach in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada.

Time

Taken in the dead of winter on January 11 at 1:15 PM.

Lighting

I was looking into the sun when I took this shot of the seagull. To prevent the gull from being underexposed, I purposely overexposed the picture by 2 aperture stops.

Equipment

Nikon D700 camera with a Nikon 70-200mm zoom lens.

Inspiration

Many gulls had gathered together at this particular area of the bay, to participate in a feeding frenzy of the fish swimming below. The birds hovered as helicopters just mere inches above the waterline. When the fish appeared, they just grabbed them with their beaks.

Editing

I added additional clarity in Lightroom to further enhance the details of the wings and the gulls underbody.

In my camera bag

When I go out on a planned photoshoot and not sure of what I will end up shooting in nature, I normally take all of my photo equipment. In addition to my D700 camera, I also take my Nikon D810 camera along with all of my Nikon lenses (70-2000 mm f/2.8, 14-24mm f/2.8, 35-80 mm f/4, TC-17E 1.7X teleconverter) and a Manfrotto tripod. It makes for a lot of equipment to carry, but the last thing I want to happen is to wish that I would have brought a piece of my equipment that I had purposely left at home.

Feedback

When taking pictures of wildlife, my only advice is to be patient, and of course still and quiet.
