This is amazing! The composition is incredible. All the lines draw the eye straight to the sun in the trees, and the slightly muted colors are perfect. Bravo!

Behind The Lens

Location

Taken in Langley township on the Canadian side of the border with the USA. There is a smallish sized pond in which numerous wildlife including waterfowl call their home.

Time

It was around 7:00 am and the air was cool and fresh. As the sun was rising, beams of sunlight broke between the fir trees and the frost lining the ground and vegetation was slowly turning into mist.

Lighting

The light breaking through the firs provided the spectacular lighting.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D700 camera with a Nikkor AF-S 14-28mm f/2.8G ED lens mounted on a Manfrotto tripod.

Inspiration

Clear blue skies, freshness in the air, beams of light coming through the firs, and of course the crescent moon (in the far right top of the picture).

Editing

I used Lightroom 4.4 to boost the colours and contrast.

In my camera bag

On most photo outdoor photo shoots I bring all my camera equipment including a Manfrotto tripod. I use only Nikon camera equipment - a 14-28 mm wide angle lens, a 105mm macro lens, a 70-200mm telephoto, a 1.4X tele extender and a SB-910 flash unit.

Feedback

For great landscape photography the only secret I have to offer is to: a) stake out the place where you want to have the photo shoot prior to the the day of the shoot, b) be at the location of the photo shoot before the sun rises, c) use a tripod and a remote off-camera initiation button, d) dress appropriately for the inclement weather, and e) be patient for that perfect time or opportunity to capture that perfect moment.
