Behind The Lens

Location

Taken from the deck of the cruise ship "Voldenham" while touring the coastal areas of southern Alaska.

Time

Taken at 12:30 pm on November 23.

Lighting

Being late in autumn, there were intermittent showers throughout the day and sunlight was dodgy as clouds came and went at a moments notice.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D810 with a Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 lens.

Inspiration

The lack of human impact, the beauty and colors of nature, trees growing miraculously from rock....all elements for an unforgettable experience and a picture perfect setting.

Editing

I used Lightroom software to enhance contrast and saturation.

In my camera bag

On a planned photo shoot I normally take all of my equipment consisting of a Nikon D810 camera, Sigma 50mm f/1.4 lens, Sigma 28-35 mm f/2 zoom lens, and a Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 G2 zoom lens and a Manfrotto tripod. Due to luggage constraints, the tripod was not brought or used for this photo shoot.

Feedback

If shooting from a deck of a cruise ship, always keep in mind that since you are shooting on a platform that is moving, you will need to use a relatively high camera speed to prevent blurring of pictures. Whenever practical, I chose camera speeds in excess of 1/1000 sec.
