You really captured how small we are compared to our earth, even what we think is big like the housing is nothing in comparison. Great shot! The look of determination on her face is awesome! Breath taking view!

This picture is great on so many levels it's hard to sum it up! You know it's pretty darn good when it makes me nervous (fear of heights) just to look at it! Congrats on your feature and great capture!

Amazing shot, well done to the climber and also to the photographer to haul expensive equipment there to capture the moment, bravo.

Outstanding! Gripping, gives so much interest in not only the photo but the story before and after the photo was taken.

This has to be the most bravest thing I've in quite so time. This woman has more heart than any gang-banger I have ever known. Hat's off to the photographer for the dedication to the craft. I can only imagine what it took to get in position to take the shot; and congrats on the Feature. Great shot.

A great shot on so many levels, well done! I especially like the fact that it has not been "manipulated". A real eye catcher that has my vote already!

Location
This photo was taken climbing ‘Via Myriam’ at Cinque Torri in the Italian Dolomites. This particular route climbs the south face of Torre Grande and here Lynne Hempton can be seen on the 4th pitch, just beginning the spectacular and exposed traverse.Time
For a shot like this I wanted some dramatic light in the background without direct light on the climber. The photo was taken at 4pm as the sun was fairly low in the sky, reducing the harsh shadows.Lighting
I used a very soft fill flash on the climber just to give the foreground a little extra ‘pop’. I didn't want any direct light on the climber as the roof would have produced some harsh and distracting shadows. I did want a nicely lit backdrop however and waited until the sun was bringing out the greens of the meadow below and illuminating the ridge line of Croda da Lago seen in the background.Equipment
This shot was taken with a Canon 6D and 17-40 f4 L series lens. I have since substantially upgraded my camera equipment but this particular image always serves to remind me you don’t need the latest and greatest gear to capture a striking and award winning image.Inspiration
This photo was actually taken for the front cover of a Dolomites climbing guide I was writing at the time. I wanted a route that looked inspiring with a suitably quintessentially dolomitic backdrop; Via Myriam ticked all the boxes. Additionally the scenery surrounding the five towers of Cinque Torri is some of the best in the Dolomites with the craggy profile of Croda da Lago providing a particularly spectacular backdrop.Editing
The post processing on this shot was actually fairly minimal. I corrected the lens distortion giving Lynne an abnormally long arm a little (but only a little as I liked the perspective effect) and reduced the glare created by the fill flash. In my camera bag
Owing to the difficulty in accessing this particular vantage point I went minimalistic with the equipment taking only the camera body and a single lens in order to reduce the amount of weight I would have to climb with.Feedback
Preparation and planning is the key to setting up a climbing shot like this. ‘Bum’ shots taken from below rarely look interesting or flattering making it necessary for the photographer to be above or level with the climber. In this particular case I lead this pitch of climbing with an extra rope before abseiling back down to gain a suitably pleasing perspective of Lynne climbing the same pitch.
