The island of Santorini is one of the most well known and popular Greek islands. You see it on computer desktop, old dusty photographs hanging in waiting rooms, social media, and even an episode of Keeping up with the Kardashians. No matter how touristy and cliche the island may be, a breathtaking view like this is something that you have to stop and gawk at. Because there is no beauty like the unique beauty of Greece.

Location
I took this photo while exploring through the town of Thira on the Greek island of Santorini.Time
I took this around 6 o'clock in the evening during the month of May.Lighting
The lighting on the island of Santorini is unique. During the afternoon, the sun and shadows are very intense and washes out everything. But sunrise and sunset are the best times to capture the island. The warm colors of the sunset is like nothing you have ever seen before. Each day that gets closer and closer to the summer months, the sunrise and sunsets only get more and more breathtaking.Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon DSLR D3100 with a 18-55mm lens.Inspiration
I was walking through the town of Thira/Fira and came across this overlook of the island. It was one of those moments that you're taken aback by the view. Every detail of it was just so perfect. The view was my inspiration for taking a photo. It's something you want to document and never forget about.Editing
I only did a little bit of a post processing. I was still pretty new to photography editing at the time. I increased the contrast, and the vibrancy. I also played around with the shadows, and sharpened the photograph. In my camera bag
Since this photograph was taken, I have upgraded my Nikon to a D7100. I later discovered how wonderful the Tamron 24-70mm lens and bring that when ever I'm out shooting. I also include the Nikon AF?S DX Nikkor 35mm F/1.8G in my bag. I bring an extra battery, and extra SD cards just in case.Feedback
When I took the photo, I was taking a photography class where we were given weekly assignments. This photograph wasn't part of the assignment. I didn't discover this photograph until 2 months later after the class ended. But it has turned out to be one of my favorite photos I took while in Greece. My advice would be if the view is beautiful and inspirational, take the shot. The other piece of advice and what you don't see in the photo is the overlook was filled with people. It is a view that everyone wants to see and capture. So be patient, and wait until you have a clear shot. It'll be worth the wait.
