Bear Lake Utah is a high altitude lake on the Utah-Idaho border. Regardless of this fact the area around the lake is desertlike. These butterflies were taking moisture from the sand at the edge of the lake. This was shot with a Tamron 150-600 lens handheld because I was looking for waterbirds at the time I saw this sight. After shooting this I tried to get closer but the butterflies would have nothing of the idea and flew off.
