Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in Milan on the occasion of the presentation of the new D850 to which I had been invited. The Nital (official importer of Nikon) had sent me the invitation and I went to try this new Reflex. On this occasion he set up a set with a model and fixed lights where everyone could shoot from any preferred angle.

Time

It was around 1pm on 16th September 2017 when I took the picture. In practice, when I managed to get the new D850 in my hand

Lighting

It is a fixed lighting (without flash). On the right of the model a panel was placed that produced a light more than double that of the one on the right used to lighten the shadows.

Equipment

For this photo I used the Nikon D850 equipped with the 70-200 Nikon at full aperture (2.8). Focal distance 200mm; spot detection; iso 100; 1/50 freehand

Inspiration

Since the model wore a wedding dress, I waited for a soft and dreamy position to make the shot.

Editing

At the post-production level I adjusted lights and shadows developing the raw file and then with Photoshop I converted the photo in black and white. Finally I adapted a "moderate film" filter present in the Silveer Efex Pro package. With a layer mask I then made the necessary adjustments with the brush.

In my camera bag

Normally I have with me the Nikon D5 and (often) also the Nikon D850. Always with me the Nikon triad composed of 14-24; 24-70; 70-200 (all f2.8). The 85 1.4 Nikon often accompanies me too

Feedback

There are no particular advice, except observing the subject and having clear ideas about what we want to photograph. In this case I wanted to capture a romantic and dreamy moment of the model. From the beginning I thought to convert the photo in black and white. Shooting always and in color to be able to view shadows and lights in a much more incisive when about the photo on the monitor of the camera or PC.
