Behind The Lens

Location

In my friend Laura's farm workshop/shed. She works as a veterinary assistant and often takes abandoned patients home till they are adopted.

Time

It was early in the morning, the light was subdued by morning fog.

Lighting

All natural and no flash to scare them off.

Equipment

D800 and a Sigma 85mm f1.4, best for poor light

Inspiration

I had made a detour to see her and the kittens and some new calves on my way to San José. Brought the camera because I wanted to see them playing among the Landrovers and the tractor.

Editing

I just increased exposure a tiny bit and cropped a little. Good pics don't need much fussing.

In my camera bag

A wide angle, like the manual 18mm, an all-round 24-70 zoom , my 180mm macro lens which serves also as a tele and a low light lens. It can be a 28, 35, 55 or this 85 mm, which is the only autofocus one in the bunch.

Feedback

Be patient. Watch them, interact, watch the mother and relax. Talk to them, even if your accent in cat is not too good. Think like a cat.. observe, focus and strike when the time is right.
