Behind The Lens

Location
not far from where i used to live in the north of the Dordogne, it was a beautiful setaside where I returned many times. That particular year it was more beautiful than ever, it was taken in the drizzle and the forest behind ade a nice dark background
Time
around midday 11.30
Lighting
it was overcast and rainy. great for flowers :)
Equipment
a 1988 vintage Tamron 300mm f2.8 with manual focus :) it is still one of my favourites, was a Canon when I bought it second hand in 2001. bought a ring for my Nikons and use it stil here in Costa Rica it was on my D3x
Inspiration
i went to this place to look for insects and stood in awe.. it was amazing. I got soaked that day, stalking an hour through the wet flowers in the drizzle to find good angles.Started with my marco lens.. no good, walked back to the car to get the 300mm. I took a bout 40 photos, it was actually quite tricky to line up something nice, i.e. not too much foreground bokeh and a good background
Editing
As usual, some small contrast and highlight adjustments in Lightroom and cropped some off the bottom. I am no fan of extensive processing, it shows and to me as a traditional photographer it doesn't look right. I like to see a good picture through the lens.
In my camera bag
these days it is a 12mm Iowa or the Nikon 18 3.5 (old :) ,my battered Nikkor 24-70 , the 70-180mm macro and the Tamron mentioned above or my 1995 500mm Nikkor. if I expect to take people shots or by night I take an 85 1.4 or the 55 1.2 (ancient) and leave the tele @ home Gotta ge that 200-400 repaired.
Feedback
look for flowers on the wayside. In paddocks that look forgotten, in meadows or less than perfect gardens. Try to grow your own mixed wildflowers.. I need some traditional cosmos to improve my mix. Do not take pics on a very sunny day. I have hundereds of pics of that particular meadow and all the sunny ones lack contrast and depth
