Behind The Lens

Location

This photo as been taken at one of my favourite places in Australia, Tambourine Mountain in Queensland.

Time

It was an hot sunny day in Queensland, and it was nearly mid day when we arrive at the heart of Tamborine Mountain. Our goal was to "discover" a bit of the track to Curtis Falls. The track it was good, and it was an awesome experience to see this amazing forest. Despite being summer, the forest is so dense that at the ground level the air was humid and fresh.

Lighting

When we arrive at this area it was very shadowy because of the dense vegetation above us. Some meters away of this location some light beams could reach the forest ground but it was very brief and randomly.

Equipment

I have used my Canon 5D MK III with an EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM lens, no other equipment was involved.

Inspiration

This fallen tree was very long with many fungus growing on it, i decided to use my 16mm lens to get some natural distortion of an wide angle lens. I tried many apertures and different angles for this composition, but the photo that i love the most was this one, where i captured the natural colours of the scene and get bokeh effect highlighting the mushrooms nearly to the lens.

Editing

I always do some kind of post-processing in my photography's. In this particular case i have only use the lens correction to get straight lines on the trees, give it some contrast, colour vibrance and clarity to have more texture on the mushrooms.

In my camera bag

For this trip i only had my Canon 5D MK III with an EF 24-105mm F4 and an EF 16-35mm F4 lens. Normally i bring more gear such as my Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary, Lee Filters and an Manfrotto BeFree tripod.

Feedback

Tamborine Mountain is one of my favourite places in Australia, many natural attractions and breathtakingly beautiful waterfalls are located all over the mountain and are often the reason why so many visitors return time and again. A bit of walking is always involved when visiting one of the many waterfalls on the mountain so time and patience to explore is recommended. A few weeks later i have learn that Cedar Creek Falls and parts of the forest where used as set for some scenes in the movie "Thor Ragnarok" and if you liked the movie, consider it as an extra incentive to visit this amazing mountain.
