Behind The Lens

Location
This photo was taken in Santa Cruz, which is one of my favorite beaches.
Time
I remember going to a Sunday late afternoon walk with my wife, we enjoy to see the sunset near the sea and i take the opportunity to take some shots during the golden hour.
Lighting
It was early Spring and after a couple of rainy days the weather was finally giving some truces, nature was providing everything in that moment the light was very soft and the pastel colours were absolutely stunning.
Equipment
I had some experiences and compositions that evening doing long exposures but i didn't really like the results, the water was to soft and without texture. To take the shot my camera settings were 2.0seg F/14 ISO 50 at 16mm, i have used my Canon 5D Mk III with a Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM lens, a Lee Filter holder Lee Polariser Filter 105mm and NiSi 100X150mm IR Graduated ND 1,2 Soft Edge, holding the camera in place my tripod Manfrotto BeFree.
Inspiration
To inspire myself i often seach photos on the Viewbug Community, follow some landscape tutorials on Youtube, one of my favorite vloggers/photographers is Thomas Heaton for the passion and dedication to his work. On the location i tried to capture the simplicity of the composition, the motion of the water creating leading lines towards the sun. It was one of my favorite sunsets ever, Nature was providing everything and the best reward it was to be there to see it happens.
Editing
In this shot i have used Lightroom to add some colour vibrance, adjusted the shadows and highlights and used lens correction tool, no other editing was made.
In my camera bag
In my bag i had my Canon 5D MK III with an EF 24-105mm F4 and an EF 16-35mm F4 lens, a 6 stops a Manfrotto BeFree tripod, Lee Filter Holder, Lee Polariser Filter 105mm, Lee Little Stopper (6 Stops), Lee Filters Big Stopper (10 Stops) and NiSi 100X150mm IR Graduated ND 1,2 Soft Edge Filter. Depending on the occasion i bring my Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary+Sigma 1.4x APO EX DG Tele Converter (Canon).
Feedback
Torres Vedras it has many points of interest on the nearly 20km of coastline, my favorite beach is near the Guincho Rock at Formosa Beach, the proximity to my house makes it one of my most photographed places. Knowing the location is important but it doesn't makes more easy in terms of composition, the light the weather and even our own vision of the place changes with time, we will always discover something new to shot. Time, practice and knowing the location are some key features to take good photos, on this golden hour nature was generous providing the landscape with soft tones and beautiful light, when all the elements combine in one moment the reward is to be on the location because for me the best part of photography is the pleasure that i get going outdoors.
