I made this portrait in old Delhi near a famous spice market named khari bowali. It's a good place for street and portraits photography.Time
That was noontime of April nearly 12 pm .The light was harsh outside but as she was sitting inside so it was in my favor.Lighting
Light was coming through the door and was making a good catch light in her eyes. It was perfect ambient light for this kind of portrait soft and even.Equipment
Canon 60 D was my first camera that I used for this portrait with my favorite 18-135 mm lens. This is the only lens with me on that time. The shot was handheld. No artificial light or flash has been used.Inspiration
I am fan of Mr. steve mccurry And always wanted to create strong story telling portraits. I find this old lady perfect for this kind of portrait. Let me tell you more about her: I saw this lady many times sitting alone and mostly looking in one direction only. Her wrinkled face and fearful eyes were Pulling me to talk to her . One day I decided to do her portrait and while going to hospital I took my camera along with me. I talked to her but she was quite l,then her son told me that she lost her voice hearing and eyesight due to age. I tried to capture all in my portrait.Editing
I just converted my colored photo to black and white. In my camera bag
Now I use Nikon so I mostly keep two camera bodies with two lens attached on it .one is D 700 and another is D 5300 If going for people and portraits then I keep 50 mm 1.8, 85 mm 1.8 and 24-35 mm 2.8 . But if I going to any bird sanctuary or any national park I keep 80-400G 3.5-5.6 . And 24-35 for landscape. Go pro is always with me whenever I am going. A mini tripod and a cleaning kit , some extra sd cards and extra batteries are always needed.Feedback
First of all I would say talking to your subject and making him/her easy is always good. Try to know a little about your subject will help you to portray the right stories in your portrait. Try to understand the role of light according to your subject, it's not always that you need soft light for portrait. Sometimes you require strong light to create more contrast and shadows. Never do hurry be calm and click.
