Behind The Lens

Location

This image was made at a photo studio in San Leandro California.

Time

Between 2 and 3pm

Lighting

One light to the left and one to the right. One behind me to add a little fill. Black backdrop.

Equipment

Sony mirrorless, 24-70mm lens. Studio mono block strobes

Inspiration

I have little experience in working with two models at once. I thought it would be fun to have them dance together wearing that beautiful red cloth.

Editing

Post processing was mostly just cropping. Small touchup on skin and contrast on cloth.

In my camera bag

Sony mirrorless camera, 24-70 and 70-300mm lenses, Pocket Wizards, spare batteries, extra camera memory cards.

Feedback

There is a huge element of trust when photographing people. You can build trust during the shoot by talking to them about what you are trying to do and then every few shoots show them the initial results. I also ask for their inputs and listen/implement what they say. Followup is needed in actually delivering the promised photos. It sounds like I like to work with models I've worked with before. True, I generally get better pictures when working with models I've worked with before and we have build a cooperative working relationship with.
