I took this photo in a photo studio in San Leandro Ca.Time
This picture was taken near noon.Lighting
Lighting was one strobe light behind and above the guy. A gridded strip soft box was used. The light on his face and eyes were reflections off the far side of her face and the camera lens.Equipment
Sony A7Rii, 24-70mm Sony lens, studio mono block flash with a gridded strip soft box. No tripod. I had them lie on a couple of tables with black cloth on top.Inspiration
I wanted to show the love between a couple. When the opportunity came up to photograph Lauren (a model), I asked her if I could also photograph her husband, Alex (a bodybuilder) with her. Post-processing was simple. Conversion to monochrome and slight cropping.In my camera bag
I currently have a camera bag that can roll but I normally carry it. A Sony full frame camera, a few lenses suitable for the days project, Pocket Wizard, model releases, some optical cleaning gear, spare batteries, pen, etc. I'll use a tripod if I'm not using strobe lights.Feedback
Getting someone to relax in front of a camera can be a bit hard. Using an experienced model can help. Getting two people to relax is harder. I try to talk to them, show results from the back of the camera so they can see what is being recorded, and take time to not only get to know them but also give them time to relax. i have photographed a number of couples and it is harder than photographing a single person. But rewarding. Go slow. Build trust. Let them understand what you are trying to accomplish (show love in this case), Get their creative inputs into the picture. I also submitted this picture to the Yerba Buena chapter (all of Northern California except the Gold Country) of the Photographic Society of America and it won the Best Picture of the Year award,
