Neat to see a goldfinch not lost among the sunflowers or other foliage. Great capture. (Sometimes you can't tell the birds are busy dining on our sunflowers until you're almost on top of them they blend in so well.)

Location
This was taken out the window of my front room, the chain holds one of my wife's flower baskets.Time
I believe it was late morning.Lighting
This is in shade natural light on the north side of my back porch. I was shooting through the widow screen indoors to outside, giving a softer look.Equipment
Nikon D300 125mm 1/1250 at f/3.2 ISO 400 Hand held I think but I might of used my monopod that is my normal setup.Inspiration
I was sitting reading a book and noticed this bird fly in land on the chain then fly off and return several times. The light and colors went together well and the D300 was new to me so wanted to try out all the bell and whistles. I wasn't sure about shooting through the screen but didn't think I could get outdoors with out scaring the bird off.Editing
Post was mainly a cropping, basic exposure adjustments then I went in Photoshop and did just a little burning on the left side to reduce a couple of hot spots. In my camera bag
What's in the bag? All the things I might need to clean, filter and record when I'm out shooting. Over the years my shoulders and back have required me to haul less with/on me so now I decide on one body and one lens and take what I get with that setup. I use a monopod more then a tripod, now I have a Platypod max so the tripod stays in the car more. I have three lens starting with a 10-24mm ,18-300mm and 80-200mm, two flash strobes with soft boxes and stands rarely used as most of my work is bicycle racing and landscapes.Feedback
The best advice ever given to me is this. Know by feel how to adjust your camera, see what your looking at and be patient. You will fail that's okay. How does failure do me any good. Train yourself to look for things deeper in the image that is before you less big picture more small details. Some people think cropping is a bad thing I don't. Photographing action is all most impossible if filling the camera frame is your goal with every shot, not all of us can have every lens made in our bag. Be patient if your setup is only good for ten feet or less wait for the subject to come to you, be ready.
