Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in Lewis River park near Battle Ground WA

Time

This is a late fall early winter morning shot around 8-ish. The valley is fairly deep at this point and the sun was just under the tree line.

Lighting

I liked the mist and sunrays, this path was on my normal route for walking my Springer so I had a good idea of what to expect.

Equipment

Shot with Nikon D 300 and my 18-140 lens hand held.

Inspiration

I had come to this point on our walk and stopped to see what kind of shot I could get of the sunrays. The couple came up behind us and commented they were sorry for walking into my shot as they passed. I saw the chance of a nice candid shot so waited for them walk into the rays, only regret was they weren't holding hands at the time.

Editing

Post is pretty simple cropped and warmed the exposure some. I left the lens flare alone as it was in the top of the frame.

In my camera bag

Normally I don't take much in the way of gear in my bag. Due to my age and bad knees the bag tends to stay in the car, I grab what I think I'll need camera /lens wise, stuff my pockets cloths, filters' water and snacks and I'm off. I use a monopod most of the time as a walking aid and a PlatyPod Max instead of a tripod.

Feedback

This path was on my daily routine so I was very aware of what I could see and capture, depending on conditions and other user's that morning. I saw the opportunity for a relaxed candid image waited a little bit and got the shot. Sometimes patients is your best tool to capture great images.
