Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken at a county park and mantaince yard south of Portland ,OR . This is one of a set of cycle cross races OBRA run in the fall, there is some kind of bike race or races all year long.

Time

As I remember around mid afternoon, as the heats are for the larger and faster riders hit the course both men and ladies scored base on their skill and past times.

Lighting

As you can see we had rain, light rain, clouds and even a little sun, normal Pacific Northwest weather.

Equipment

Shot with Nikon D300, 14-24 lens PlatyPod max setting on the ground.

Inspiration

I came back to my car to change some gear and dry off. The track ran right in front of the car and as the groups passed the huge mud puddle and spray caught my interest. The lady in the front in the photo went past and I saw she made this big spray, none of the riders put up any where near that amount of water. I liked the way how her wave came up and rapped her foot just before splitting the wave. The camera was already set up for remote shooting so I grabbed it and remote waited for her to come around on the next lap.

Editing

Post was basic adjustments and cropping

In my camera bag

I have two D300's the 14-24mm an 18-140mm and last but not least 80-200. I add a 18-300 after this. The PlatyPod max goes everywhere and replaced my old tripod. A set of pocket wizard remotes and a monopod on the primary 300 round out my bag.

Feedback

The best advice I ever got about shooting any kind of photo, " keep looking around with an open mind, seek out those opportunities others miss " I can't count the number of time in classes and events you here someone get a great shot that was behind the rest of us because we locked in on only what was in our faces.
