Appreciate the comment, thanks. There seems to be something magical about light in Africa, kind of like sunsets in Australia. :D

I stopped photograhing Elephants for this shot. The sky was just amazing, only thing better would have been a few elephants in the foreground but the logs worked. Appreciate your visits to my work

Thanks, had to capture that sunset and silhouette but needed to find something for the foreground, elephants would have been better but they were on the other side so used the dead wood. Appreciate the nice comment

Looking at the photos captured in africa, I am sure it is really great place for wildlife. I saw they bountiful nature resources however, some others exploited them and you can see that wildlife is more protected than human. For me it isn't right. Put human life as first then wild life as second. Protect them by giving education, clear water, teach them how to plant in the ares where they can still grow plants. I can feel the pain of the people living there. However the photograph is beautiful, voted Discover Africa!

Sometimes you are in the right place at the right time, but I will say sunsets & sunrises in Africa just have a quality about them, thanks much Carol

Location
This was taken at Davison's Camp in Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe, Africa on an afternoon game drive where we stopped by a water hole to watch elephants. As the sun started to set I could see the colors were going to be good so turned away from the elephant action to spend some time on a landscape shot. It is always a good idea to look around when shooting as you never know what you might miss.Time
This image was captured at 5:55 PM which was 3 minutes before sunset. I took about 10 shots and this is one of three that I developed.Lighting
There is just something about the light in Africa, whether it is early morning or evening near sunset. The air just seems to enhance the colors, maybe it is dust in the air or the humidity here. I have noticed a similar occurrence in Australia. Also here there were wonderful clouds and a bit of gap light.Equipment
I used a Canon 5D MkII with Ef24-105mm f/4 L lens mounted on a Gitzo Tripod with Really Right Stuff Ball Head. Since I had been photographing wildlife just before taking a few landscape shots, I did not have any filters on the lense. My settings for this image was 1/100 sec, f/7.1, 47mm and ISO 200.Inspiration
The way the sky looked with the setting sun and clouds is what caught my attention. Then the silhouette of the trees and gnarly wood in the foreground. I really like how the color in the sky blended with the sandy soil and gnarly tree branches in the foreground.Editing
I used Lightroom for developing this image. I first cropped the image to give it a wider look then adjusted the White Balance, Blacks, Whites, Highlights and Shadows. Then I adjusted the clarity and vibrance to help pull the orange out of the sky and then increased the contrast a bit. I made no color or saturation adjustments. In my camera bag
On this trip I carried one bag due to weight and space limit. In it I had both a wide angle telephoto and prime telephoto lens and had the wide angle telephoto mounted on my 5D-MkII and the prime telephoto on my 50D. I also had a tripod and various filters such as CP, Grad ND and ND along with extra batteries, chargers and about a dozen CF Cards.Feedback
Look around while shooting, you never know what you will see. Besides looking around for other opportunities I also feel it is important to stop shooting every now and then and really look around and enjoy the moment. Many times we photographers are all about what we capture, but when we focus so much on our shooting we miss the real scene. Enjoy the moment and take it all in. Many times when I do take the time to do that I see things differently.
