Gorgeous capture! Congrats & good luck! Some day I want to do some bridge shooting in SF at night...but it's harder to get there than it should be!

If you get there at night be careful not to leave anything in your car and fill up the meter. We put enough in for an hour and were a couple minutes over and got an $84 parking ticket.

Location
This photo was taken in San Francisco at the bottom of Harrison & Embarcadero streets toward Oakland.Time
This nighttime image was taken at 11:25 PM on July 24, 2013.Lighting
I used what lighting was available and waited until the new LED lights on the Bay Bridge came on. These lights are not steady, and once turned on they kind of blink and flash in a sequence. The other lights in this image come from a ferry that was moving across the water during the long exposure and really added interest to this image.Equipment
I used a Canon 5D MkII with EF24-105mm f/4.0 L IS USM lens and my Gitzo GT2531 tripod with Really Right Stuff BH55 Ball Head.Inspiration
I wanted some night photos of the Bay Bridge with the new LED lights so on a 3 night visit to San Francisco I spent one evening after it got dark doing some night photography.Editing
I did very little post processing with this image. Probably the major adjustment was to the White Balance to get the colors corrected. Then some minor Shadows, Highlights, Blacks and Whites fine tuning and finally some sharpening for use on the web.In my camera bag
I have two bags and each has a purpose. The bag with me on this night contained my 5DMKII (Full Frame Camera) a Canon EF16-35mm f/2.8 L USM, Canon EF24-105mm f/4.0 L IS USM and Canon EF70-200 f/2.8 L IS USM along with an extra battery (a must for night photography as I use the Live View to compose and that eats up battery power), an extra memory card, flashlight and headlamp (also a must for night photography). Probably also had my Lee Grad ND filters, but did not need or use any that night. Strapped to the bag was my Gitzo GT2531 tripod with Really Right Stuff BH55 Ball Head, an absolute must for night photography.Feedback
For this location in particular I cannot stress enough the importance of filling the parking meter with enough money to get maximum parking time. I thought a little more than an hour was plenty but ran over and got a ticket for about $80. Walk around this area in the daytime and scope out some things you might want to work on at night. It is much easier to see in the day than at night. Also once you get here at night, do not leave anything in your car. Sorry to say many photographers have had gear stolen here. Have a plan in mind and when you get to each location you planned in your minds eye during the day, give them all a good look again. Turn around and see what might be different from the day.
