Location
This photo was taken in an old mill building in Westford, Massachusetts in the US.Time
The photo was taken in the afternoon.Lighting
An Alien Bee 800W was used with a strip grid to light the model camera left. Natural light was available camera right. I did not want too much light spill on the background.Equipment
It was shot with a NIKON 610.Inspiration
The inspiration for this photo came after the photos were reviewed. It was a collaboration with the model. She came up with the idea of adding wings and we mutually collaborated on post-processing until we were satisfied with the end results.Editing
The initial editing work was performed in PhotoShop. The conversion to black and white used the NIK software add on, Silver EFEX Pro. Wings were added and blended using layers to give a more realistic look, it was important to have a good transition from the added wings to the model. In my camera bag
NIKON 610, 50 mm prime/1.8, 85 mm prime 1.8, 70-200 mm/2.8 and a 10-20 mm/4.5. I also use a Sekonic 758 light meter.Feedback
Think outside the box. Get inspiration from others and try to take your work further. Collaboration with the model was the important, we agreed on a vision. Together we created this image working with each others strengths. Just ask yourself the question, "What else could I do to this photo?"
