Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken on Hampstead Heath, London during the golden hour.

Time

Early evening.

Lighting

I had a single strobe in an octabox to add some light to the model’s face as I wanted to shoot her backlit, with the sun behind her.

Equipment

My Canon 5D Mark IV, 85mm prime lens, strobe light mounted on a stand, with an octabox to soften the light.

Inspiration

I love backlit images and the light was beautiful that conditions were perfect to aim for the shot I wanted.

Editing

This was edited in PS (face and skin) and using a couple of PS actions from Greater than Gatsby. Finishing touches were added in Alien Skin Exposure.

In my camera bag

Camera, my 85mm prime lens (my favourite) and my 24-70mm lens. I sometimes also carry a reflector and sometimes a single light

Feedback

Golden hour light is gorgeous. Try shooting with the sun behind the model to illuminate hair and soften the skin. I sometimes use a large reflector and this would have worked equally well in place of a light.
