Location
This was a powder shoot with a dancer taken in a studio. Studio work is unusual for me, as I usually shoot on location or in the outdoors.Time
This was early evening.Lighting
There was one fixed studio light and we played about with the level and positioning of it. This was the combination I preferred. I wanted only part of the dancer and the powder to be illuminated, rather than the whole of her.Equipment
This was taken with my Canon 6D and new 24-70 f/2.8 lens. The camera was handheld and I was sat on the floor. No flash.Inspiration
I love taking photos of dancers and when I saw this powder shoot advertised I was keen to participate, as it was something a little bit different.Editing
The photo was processed with Lightroom and Nik Collection Silver Efex. I really enjoy the post production processing stage of digital photography. In my camera bag
I have a Canon 6D camera and usually carry a selection of lenses depending on what I plan to shoot. I always have my 24-70 f/2.8 lens and supplement that with either a wide angle lens or my 70-200 f/2.8. The lenses are heavy so I do try and take with me only those I plan to use. I rarely use flash or tripods.Feedback
I like to shoot dancers at f/2.8, which is what I used here. Shutter speed is important to capture the powder at the point of the 'clap'. I didn't want to go to high however as the I wanted to keep the ISO as low as possible. Here I used 1/200.
