Location
This photograph was taken at a local recreational soccer field.Time
Taken late afternoon. You can see the sun setting in the background. Lots of mosquitos...Lighting
This was shot with an AD600 strobe inside a 48” octabank, camera left.Equipment
I used a Fujifilm XT-3 with their 23mm f/1.4 lens. I used a tripod because I had to do several takes. The soccer player was jumping to the side, landing on a beanbag. I took one image of the goal, without the beanbag or player to use as a plate, so I could erase the beanbag in post processing.Inspiration
My son loves soccer. Sure, you can get action shots during games, but it’s so fast-paced, and there’s a lot going on that can distract from the main subject such as other players.Editing
As far as post-processing, I did little to tweak exposure, colors, etc. I did have to use photoshop to get rid of the bean bag he was falling onto.In my camera bag
I always carry a pair of Fujifilm cameras in my bag. Currently, I’m carrying the XT-3 with a 56mm f/1.2 lens, as well as the GFx 50R with a 63mm f/2.8 lens. Spare batteries a s memory cards are always present as well, as well as a couple of neutral density filters if I have a need to cut down on light.Feedback
Practice makes perfect. Go out and shoot what you love. Got an idea? Plan it out. The more you plan up front, the more you can enjoy the actual shoot.
