The origins of this photo are somewhat depressing. I was reading an article on child abuse. Children are to be loved and cherished, not beaten or abused. My wife was out of the state on a trip, so my son was a bit sad that she was gone. I took that opportunity to take a portrait showing that a child is not a fighter.

background was a white foamcore board.
added a texture to the background in Photoshop, also to the boxing gloves to give it a more gritty feel.

Location
I took this photo when my wife taking care of a family matter across the country for almost 2 weeks. My son was maybe 3 at the time, and was missing his something terrible. I decided to use that long face to create this image. It was taken in our kitchen, against a white foam core board.Time
Mid-morning indoors in our kitchen. No outside light provided any help/detriment to the photo.Lighting
Lighting was just from a single umbrella, camera right.Equipment
Taken with the Fuji XT-1, Zeiss Touit 32mm f/1.8 lens. Flash inside 33” umbrella was a Streaklight/Godox ad360.Inspiration
Around town, I saw a few billboards talking about child abuse. I can’t seem to understand why anyone would want to take out their anger on a child. A child is defenseless. They look up to you as their protectors, not their source of fear. I made this image with boxing gloves to show that children need love, not abuse.Editing
Just a few tweaks with contrast and exposure to get a bit of a gritty black and white feel. I added a texture to the white foam core background to give a sense of a cracked, broken home.In my camera bag
Fuji XT-3, Fuji XH-1. Fujifilm XF 23mm f/1.4, 56mm f/1.2. If I have a need for a telephoto, then I bring my Fujifilm XF 50-140mm f/2.8Feedback
