Presque Isle Park of Marquette, Michigan, is a site of summer recreation -- splashing, relaxing, even cliff diving -- and all-year sightseeing and admiration. A peninsula on a peninsula, this outcropping of land juts into famously icy Lake Superior, so divers would do best to be aware of the temperature before leaping. The landscape here, very different from the well-known sandstone cliffs of Pictured Rocks to the east and elsewhere along the Greatest Lake's coast, reveals much older metamorphosed igneous peridotite -- the geologic formation that allows locals to give Presque Isle the apt nickname "Blackrocks."
