Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at home in my bathroom.

Time

I really don’t remember what time of day it was, but I remember it was daytime. ;)

Lighting

I am one to always want to use actual daylight for my pictures, but in this shot I lit the scene with a few CFL bulbs.

Equipment

Believe it or not, I achieved this photo using my iPhone... I used the timer, propped it up on a shelf in the medicine cabinet, and this is the end product. People don’t always believe the amazing results you can have with an iPhone. You just need a vision and patience to follow through.

Inspiration

I had seen a picture on the internet a couple years ago or so that’s stuck with me. It was a monotone photo of Darth Vader in the bathroom holding his toothbrush, but in a way where you could understand he was trying to figure out how he’d brush his teeth with his iconic helmet on. It was silly, but clever. I came up with this photo as a sort of companion shot. I’d love to shake the hand of the person who created the Darth Vader photo.

Editing

All I really did was add a little clarity for crispness, and then convert to monotone.

In my camera bag

In my camera bag I have a Canon 6D, Canon 6D Mark II, Canon 5D Mark IV, two external flashes, 3 transmitters, 4 lenses, lens cleaning clothes, a pen, a plethora of rechargeable batteries... you know, probably way too much when I think about it! Thanks for making me self-conscious. Haha.

Feedback

Just think outside the box, take a few risks.. if you have some favorite photos from other photographers, don’t be afraid to play off them a bit with your own twists. As long as the photo is your own and it makes you happy, you’re on the right path.
