I loved finding this scene because it gave me the feeling that the owner of this car parked it with the intention of driving it again, but it was the last time this old Chevy would be driven.

Behind The Lens

Location

I took this on an abandoned property new South Riding, Virginia. There was a couple of cars in the area, but this was one of my favorites and I had to capture it.

Time

This was mid-afternoon, on a cloudy day.

Lighting

As with most of my work, the light is just natural daylight-- No flashes, or reflectors.

Equipment

This was shot on my iPhone, even processed with it. :)

Inspiration

I have always enjoyed finding abandoned vehicles and buildings, so when I saw this scene, I just had to park my car and do my best to capture the essence.

Editing

Yes, I used an app I love called Mextures. The look I wanted to created was something of a memory, nostalgia, but with a more recent feel. I wanted to create a longing, but relatable vibe.

In my camera bag

All the equipment I need, and yet not enough at times. :)

Feedback

One of the best things to do if you want to create a similar scene is to drive around in rural areas, down roads you've never been, in areas you've never seen. Also, as I've done, don't be afraid to knock on the door of a house that has an old vehicle decaying in its yard.. 98% of the time, I've explained to the owner that I'm a photographer and would love to capture an artistic photo of their vehicle. If you look professional and pleasant, they may allow you to take photos and may even want to view your work themselves.
