I went to my local floral conservatory one day and saw this beautiful flower. The floral conservatory changes the theme of their displays as the seasons change.Time
It was around 1 in the afternoon. My friend and I were looking for something to do one Saturday and I had just picked up my new macro lens.Lighting
It was just after midday and the sun was still over head. The floral conservatory has tons of natural light coming in through the glass roof which makes for amazing lighting to take photos.Equipment
This was shot with a Sony a5000 mirrorless camera and a Sony E-mount 3.5/30 macro lens.Inspiration
Just the beauty of the flower and the unique print on its petals.Editing
I sharpened the image a little bit because I didn't have a tripod at the time but there was no other editing done to the photo. In my camera bag
At the time I just had my Sony a5000 camera with the 3.5/30 macro lens and my 3.5-5.6/16-50 kit lens. Now I have a 1.8/50 portrait lens and a FE 4/70-200 G OSS telephoto lens.Feedback
Just get out there and experiment. Play with angles and different lighting to find what works for you, I probably took 10 to 20 photos of this flower before I got this shot. The nice thing about flowers is, unless there's wind, they don't move a whole lot so they are perfect for learning. There are lots of great websites and YouTube videos on how to take photos of different subjects. Also don't forget to have fun.
