Behind The Lens

Location

This photograph was taken at the Air Show in Hillsboro, Oregon. It was an exciting and visual event including stunt planes, fireworks, and precision flying. Families gathered to witness the color, speed, stunts, and love of aviation.

Time

Dusk. The day was winding down and we were blessed to have a very warm and colorful sunset glow to end a very spectacular day. Quite the experience to see the planes fly off into the sunset.

Lighting

The lighting was perfect. Soft glow from the sunset and a nice contrast from daylight to dusk.

Equipment

Nikon D5000, 55-200 mm lense, no tripod or flash.

Inspiration

I was inspired by the magical moment captured at the end of the days event. Beautiful sunset, emotion, and the love of aviation.

Editing

A small amount of light and contrast balance. Not too much adjustment is needed as you want to preserve the softness and the "glow" of the actual moment.

In my camera bag

I have a Nikon D5000. My standard lens is a AF-S55-200 mm 1:4-5.6G, it is a workhorse. I also have a B + W 52 TOP-POL filter that I really like.

Feedback

Photos that are taken at dusk are amazing and you have to be prepared for the moment. Visualize your capture, pick the focal point and adjust your camera settings. Preparation is everything because the light and opportunity is of a very limited duration.
